With a flutter of shimmering wings and brown curls bouncing, Puck trotted along the path. Humming to himself, he glanced around, taking everything in until his eyes fell upon the snack table. "Ooohh, snacks!" Picking up his pace, he fairly skipped over to the table, eyes eagerly absorbing the offered treats. Picking up a plate, he began to pile it high: roasted pumpkin seeds, some kind of mystery treat, pretty little candies shaped like bats and ghosts. His eyes lit up when he spotted the cupcakes piled high with purple frosting and orange sprinkles. "Oohh I wonder what flavor those are!" He added a couple to his plate, found it almost too full, and grinned. Time to find a seat to munch on his repast.
He spotted another thyci, likewise engaged in nomming on sweets, and trotted over to join her. "Hello, I'm Puck. Lots of yummy things to eat, huh?" He plopped down beside her and took a bite of a cupcake. "Mmmm, carrot and cream cheese frosting!" He munched away happily, ignoring the mess he was making of himself.
(It was made with Photoshop actually - I used one of their symbols tools )
She introduced herself with a faint dip of her head, being careful as to where her angle had the tip of her horn facing (no need to get her horn buried in the ground during a first meeting, after all). The little brown doe flashed the stranger, nay Puck, another smile, "It's quite the interesting festival. Not to many here yet, but I bet we'll see plenty more coming in as the day progresses - especially on into the night!"
Cally glanced back towards some of the other Thyci, watching as one scared another before another voice spoke out from behind Cally and Puck - though Cally didn't know if Puck heard it too. Still, she turned to see who was enjoying the screams and shrieks of the festivities, only to startle and freeze up faintly at the sight of the white spectre hovering over the ground, head angled down towards the two laying Thyci, black voids for eyes. The spirit seems to watch for a moment before chuckling to himself and ghostly gliding past them, asking her if she'd be expecting someone else instead. Cally remained quiet for a moment, blinking once, or twice before glancing towards the fellow Thyci next to her, "Uhm, you saw that . . . . that g-ghost, right?"
Wicked Angel darted through the clearing and gave a creepy laugh as she scared other Thyci with her wild looks. Flicking her tail she snorted at the ones who weren't ready to have someone appear right in front of them. "If I had been a Disirax you'd be captured right now with no way to fight back." She then trotted away to scare the next Thyci. She saw a couple who were calmly enjoying a snack together and she got a very devious smile on her face. She was just about to jump out and scare them when she saw a ghostly figure float around them. She snorted and grumbled about others messing up her fun. The brown doe would now be on guard against something jumping out at her so, Wicked Angel decided to wait a little while before trying to scare her. As she walked away she suddenly changed her mind and spun around to run straight at the two eaters when suddenly a young buck with large deer antlers stepped in front of her and she had to sit down in a screeching halt to avoid slamming into him.
Sanura danced about her kitchen, completely stocked with every thing that the dusty brown doe could need to make any treats that were desired. When a timer went off, she flicked an ear and turned to the oven. Opening the larger than usual door, she carefully extracted the freshly baked snack amid a wave of cinnamon and yeast scented steam. Making a quick move, she slid the entire tray of cinnamon rolls onto a baking rack and then grabbed the bowl of prepared icing. Using the whisk, she drizzled thick streams of the white sugar and cream cheese mixture across the piping hot rolls and sighed as she watched some of the icing seep into the confection. They had come out completely perfect and she was excited to reveal them to anyone that was around.
Once the goodies had cooled a bit, Sanura moved the tray onto a platter and trotted out of her kitchen. Placing the platter of fragrant cinnamon rolls onto a table that was laden with treats, she gazed about her at the crowd of Thyci. She noted a few that were enjoying their plates of snacks and smiled warmly. It was nice to see good food being appreciated. Placing a pair of rolls onto plates, she carefully brought them over to the foresty tone doe and strikingly marked buck.
"Fresh out of the oven, if you are interested..." She said kindly, her warm voice reminiscent of fresh baking and warm kitchens.
"Ghost? Where, what ghost?!?" Puck had been watching the devilishly playful antics of a vivid black and red thyci when Cally mentioned a ghost. Whirling his head back and forth, he turned just in time to catch a glimpse of an ethereal figure fading into the distance. His jaw dropped, and only his dedication to good snacks kept them near at hoof. "I-I-I saw....something. Maybe it was a ghost? Or maybe it was a trick of some sort. Should we....follow it?" He glanced back at Cally, seeing the look of...was it fear? on her face and wondered if that was a good suggestion after all.
Just then, a whiff of freshly baked cinnamon rolls tickled Puck's nose. He heard a voice calling out, "Fresh out of the oven, if you are interested...." Flashing a gentle smile, he added, "Or we could go and get some of those cinnamon rolls instead. Sounds like they were just baked?" Trekking along after a maybe-ghost, maybe-trick would involve chasing it down, while the cinnamon rolls were right over there. Torn between curiosity and lazy snacking, Puck decided to let Cally choose what to do next.
She muttered, more to herself than to her new found companion. It was then that Puck suggested they go after it, and for a moment, Cally bulked at the idea, before her courage came swimming back as she realized that going after it could be one heck of a spooky – but fun – adventure. And that, there, was the magic word: Adventure; just the acknowledgement of some grand adventure with unknown consequences – and more importantly, leading to unknown locations.
Cally was about to agree when the male seemed distracted by a different option – however, this time the promise of snacks, and when Cally glanced towards the doe offering, she blinked in surprise, about to ask Clover what she was doing here (after she’d sworn she was staying with the herd to gather for food and other bits), before realizing she was looking at Clover’s twin. While the two does were identical, Sanura always had a softer tone to her voice.
Cally smiled to Puck, “Well, let’s get some snacks first, and then we can go after the ghost, or whatever it might have been! We’d need supplies for the road anyway – right?” Cally asked, as she rose to her hooves daintily, pausing as she felt something odd against her hoof – glancing down she almost gasped, fearing she’d somehow chipped a hoof, her head dipping, and glancing closer to the hoof in question, before noticing a similar issue with the other fore hoof. Further exploration and observation showed that all four hooves now appeared ‘split’ in the cloven style. She blinked slowly – knowing she hadn’t woken up that way. It had to have been something she ate.
Cally shook her head, before offering Puck an apologetic smile, “Sorry, I spaced out for a second. It appears someone put something into one of the foods, I didn’t have cloven hooves when I walked into the party – but I do now – it had to have been something I ate.” She glanced towards where fresh food was being placed out, and glanced towards Puck, “Shall we see what Sanura’s putting out?” She offered, before heading in that direction, smiling towards the other doe as she approached, “Sanura? I’m not sure if you remember me? My name’s Callynite – I’m a member of your birth herd. Clover will be disappointed that she missed out on seeing you.” Cally greeted warmly, tilting her head to the side to peer at the snacks Sanura had brought, “Those smell delicious! Mind if we take a few – Puck and I came across a mystery, there’s a ghost haunting about. We’re going to go find it, and we might want to take a few snacks for the trail.”
The young doe seemed distracted by the whirlwind of activity that had descended onto the area. Puck preferred to simply absorb it all as it came, taking in the sights and sounds at ease. She seemed to recover quickly, however, and her expression changed to one of...anticipation, perhaps? Oh, so she's the adventurous type. The thought made Puck hesitate for a moment-his propensity for lounging around usually precluded any thoughts of actually going out to experience the wider world. Before she could reply to his suggestion, the doe called out her offering of snacks, and suddenly Cally was on her hooves, suggesting they stock up on snacks before heading out. "That's a fantastic idea!" he agreed wholeheartedly. Cally suddenly balked, however, and let out a gasp as she examined her hooves with great care. "Oh! Are you all right?" He moved quickly to stand alongside her and offer aid, should it be required. His eyes widened at her explanation, and he glanced down to see that her hooves were, indeed, cloven. "Well that's certainly a surprise! I wonder if that ghost-thing had anything to do with this, or if it really was one of the snacks?" Puck danced in a quick circle, checking himself for similar oddities. He was relieved to find no changes, and let out a sigh. "Well, they do look good on you, but I, for one, am glad to remain as I was!" With a chuckle and a wink, he admired her new hooves once again. At her suggestion to check out what-she called the other doe Sanura-was handing out, Puck followed, eager for both the snacks and, surprisingly, the promised adventure ahead.
It was clear that the two does shared a history and common friends. A little pang hit him then-he'd not seen his own birth herd in years. I simply must go and visit them soon. Setting his own feelings aside, he smiled an introduction. "I'm Puck. It's very nice to meet the one providing all of this wonderful fare." He inhaled the sweet scent deeply, closing his eyes to better appreciate the subtle nuances of flavor. "I would ask if you'd like to join us, but then who would make all of these delicious treats?", said with a wry grin. Of course, if Sanura wanted to come, she was more than welcome. Puck had been adrift for some time, and was only just starting to make new connections and friends. It was good to be among others, to have a sense of community again.
